Bert & Ernie: Which One Are You?
I went Christmas shopping with my cheerful, wonderful mother this weekend and we had a conversation that went something like this:
Me: I like to park on the side of the building, away from everyone.
Mom: Why?
Me: I don't know. I hate walking near people.
Mom: Gee, Sara, you need to lighten up.
Me: ...I drove this time, so we park on the side.
Mom: I hate parking on the side.
We park on the side and get out of the car.
Me: It's finally getting cold! It feels so Christmas-y.
Mom: Brr!
Me: It's so nice, I love being all bundled up. This is my favorite time of year.
Mom: I like Spring.
We walk into the store, my mom smiling and me with my arms folded (probably scowling).
Me: You know, we're just like Bert and Ernie.
Mom: Wait. Which one's which?
Me: Ernie's the jolly orange one, the one with the rubber ducky who plays jokes on people and laughs all the time. Bert's the taller, anxious one who can be pretty miserable.
Mom: We are like that!
I'm Bert, in case this little tale needs further explanation.
